Hypoglycemia Emergency Card

⚠️ Yorkie Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia)

If your puppy seems weak, wobbly, or “not right” — ACT IMMEDIATELY

 

🚨 SIGNS

• Weak / wobbly
• Shaking or trembling
• Very sleepy / low energy
• Glassy or unfocused eyes
• Not responding normally

Severe:
• Pale gums
• Disorientation
• Collapse / seizures

⚡ STEP 1: GIVE SUGAR IMMEDIATELY

If NOT fully alert:
• Rub Karo syrup or honey on gums using your finger

If alert and able to swallow:
• Karo syrup or honey: ~0.5 mL
→ Repeat once after 20 minutes if needed
• Nutri-Cal: 0.5–1 mL

Alternative:
• Sugar water (1 tsp sugar in warm water)

 

🧸 STEP 2: KEEP WARM & CALM

• Wrap in blanket
• Place in quiet area
• Limit movement and stimulation

🍽 STEP 3: FEED WHEN ALERT

• Offer small meal
• Use soft food if needed

 

🏥 STEP 4: CALL YOUR VET

IMMEDIATELY if:
• No quick improvement
• Severe symptoms
• Episodes repeat

 

❗ IMPORTANT

Do NOT wait.
Low blood sugar can become life-threatening quickly.

Always have on hand:
• Nutri-Cal
• Syringe
• Karo syrup
